Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 7, 2026
Neat Inbox ("the App") is built with privacy as a core design principle. This policy explains what data the App accesses and how it is handled.
Summary
- All mail scanning and AI classification happen on your Mac.
- We do not upload your email content to any server.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell your data.
Email data
The App reads messages from Apple Mail and, if you configure it, IMAP mailboxes you connect. This data is processed locally to identify junk, promotional, and stale messages. Message content is not transmitted to Matthew Chapman or any third-party service for analysis.
IMAP credentials
If you connect IMAP accounts, your credentials are stored in the macOS Keychain on your device. They are used only to connect to your mail provider on your behalf.
Mail.app automation
The App may control Apple Mail through macOS Automation permissions you grant in System Settings. This permission is used solely to read and organize mail as part of the App's cleanup features.
Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple through the Mac App Store. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple may collect transaction data according to their own privacy policy.
Analytics and tracking
Neat Inbox does not include third-party analytics SDKs or advertising frameworks. The App does not collect usage analytics or device identifiers for tracking purposes.
Data retention
Scan results and app preferences are stored locally on your Mac. Uninstalling the App removes its local data. IMAP credentials remain in Keychain until you remove them manually.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes.
